DEMO REEL RESUME

Hello, and welcome to the personal site of Jason M. Hurst Frye, the guy with two last names.

I am a CG artist with a focus on Texturing and Environmental Design.

My objective, in short, is to create beautiful imagery. I went to school to become an animator, and am leaving with my with my focus dialed more on the look and feel of the worlds I help create. After seeing what has been developing in the gaming world with new hardware and software advancements, I am increasingly curious with how far the envelope can be pushed.

OK. So despite the fact that I have not posted anything up here in six months it doesn't mean I don't care. I was ambushed by pack of Guatemalan resistance fighters and have been forced – until recently – to sit hunched over a weathered stump, whittling away tiny fragments of wood and wrapping them with colored string in a Guatemalan Worry Doll factory. I was only fed bananas and roasted monkey elbows (surprisingly good with a little hot sauce) and only sweat wrung from my tattered bandana to drink.

Luckily I was rescued by a nomadic band of Seattle game developers with a penchant for Guatemalan roasted coffee and was offered salvation at their headquarters in the heart of downtown Seattle. I now sit with slightly better posture over a less-weathered desk whittling away polygonal surfaces and wrapping them with colored pixels with all of the free coffee, trail mix and pretzels I can consume.

Here is another art test I completed recently. I was asked to create a Donut Shop in a seedy part of town. The test asked for the shop and sidewalk, but I decided to block the surrounding area in as well.

So just because I decided I had too much free time and not nearly enough frustrations, I've decided to set up a Linux machine again. To my surprise, it was much eaiser than before, all thanks to Ubuntu!

I'll post a progress page when I get a chance.

So I did an art test for a company a while back, and figured it was time to post it up. Given 4 source images (and the freedom to add more), I modeled, textured and lit the two scenes in three days.

What another great conference! It was a lot bigger that I was expecting! Last year made sense as it was in L.A., but bean-town did right by me. I’ll post some photos and whatnot soon enough.

Here’s a big thank you to all of the people I met and talked with. Without exception you all made for a great time and I look forward to keeping in touch.

As of today, I have earned a BFA in Computer Art from the Savannah College of Art & Design. Graduated Magna Cum Laude at that!
